NAS — Network Attached Storage.
In order to store any data we need file, file is store in directory and directory is created inside drive. The Storage drive can be local or somewhere in internet- like Microsoft OneDrive, Google drive, iCloud etc.
When transferring data between 2 servers over network we use some protocol. Typically, in file(NAS) storage for reading/writing uses NFS protocol.
LFS [Local File system ] - If you store all files in local system.
NFS [Network File System ]- If you store all files on other server over a network.
For creating NAS or File storage, we need to have client and server. Server is where the storage is created and Folder/directory is shared/export.
General steps to create any server:-
- Install the software:
Create a folder to share in NFS server.
Now update the config file — /etc/exports .
Add the folder and client details to share the folder. In this below case the folder is only shared to IP- 192.168.10.5. So, only this particular client system can access the folder.
mount the NFS server’s folder at client side to make it usable at client side.
- start services
